Welcome to my home in cyberspace! My name is Marcin Pilat. I currently live in Nagoya (Japan). My regular home is Ottawa - Canada's capital.

In 2009, I have completed my Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Calgary in the area of Artificial Life. I was part of the Evolutionary Swarm & Design (ESD) group led by Dr. Christian Jacob. My research interests are mainly in the area of Artificial Intelligence: Artificial Life, Artificial Ecosystems, Evolutionary Theory, Simulations, Swarm Intelligence, Evolutionary Computation, and Robotics. Currently, I am doing a 2 year post doc at the Artificial Life Laboratory at Nagoya University, Nagoya, Japan. I am researching evolutionary processes through physical simulations. Previously, I worked at Defence R&D Canada's Centre for Operational Research and Analysis (DRDC CORA) as a Visiting Fellow through the NSERC Visiting Fellowship in Canadian Government Labs. I work on modelling and simulation of complex socio-technical defence systems. I have worked as a Teaching Assistant at University of Calgary [2003-2008] and Carleton University [1999-2002]. I have also spent 2 years working as a Software Developer at Optiwave Corporation [1998-2001] and Corel Corporation [1999]. For more information, please see my CV.

In my spare time, I enjoy playing video games (mostly RPGS). My all time favourite games include: Ultima series, Elder Scrolls series, Thief series, World of Warcraft. I am also interested in astronomy, backyard stargazing, and astrophysics. I like mathematics and enjoy problem solving. I also enjoy stamp collecting - specializing in old worldwide (pre 1940), China, and Germany. The music I usually listen to is eurodance, eurobeat, jpop, kpop, techno, and trance. I enjoy cross country skiing, bicycling, and hiking.
